1. How do you pronounce your last name?
It may not look like it, but Machak rhymes with "paycheck" (say it with me... MAY-check!).
2. What happens if your camera breaks in the middle of our ceremony?
Don't worry! I have backup camera bodies and lenses. I also bring tons of batteries, backup memory cards, and a point-and-shoot camera, just in case. If something were to happen, I would be able to keep shooting seamlessly.
3. I want a lot of posed photographs. Will you work from a list?
I will be happy to work with you to get formal, posed shots, and what I have found to work best for my style is to have a list of people you would like in formal portraits. I want you to spend most of your time at your wedding, not taking pictures, and so my portrait sessions tend to be short. If you are willing, however, I would love to steal the two of you for a few moments when the time is right during your reception (or after the ceremony) to take a few pictures of just the two of you.
When it comes to the events of the day, I have found that it's best if you just enjoy your day and let me stand back and chronicle it. You don't need to look at the camera when you're cutting the cake and dancing. The couples I have photographed in the past were surprised at the number of photographs they didn't know I was taking!
4. What is your photographic style? What inspires you?
I have a background in theatre, which I have done professionally for years (I am a behind the stage person, though!). I have a strong sense of dramatic lighting and tableaux, and I love finding fresh angles and new perspectives. Your wedding photos are not going to be like anyone else's! I am inspired by photographers Jeff Wall for his interesting moods and creative use of light, and Henri Cartier-Bresson for his honest and moving style.
I am inspired by people. Faces. Families. Humor. Exuberance. Friends. Love. I am watching for the way your eyes sparkle when you laugh. I am inspired by your secret handshake with your best man. I am watching for the way the two of you sing to each other while you're dancing. These are the moments that you will be glad to have forever in print!
I am inspired by details. I love the way the light plays off the beads on your dress and veil, and I am impressed that you made your own flowers and favors! I was a DIY bride, and I know the amount of work that goes into creating a beautiful and personal wedding. I want to make sure you have a record of those personalized but fleeting details of the day. I also want to make sure you have beautiful photos of your heirloom cufflinks and the car-shaped trophies you gave your groomsmen.
